Round and Round

What a surprise to see a brand new bright yellow school bus in the circular drive at Calvary Church on Sunday, November 29th! Rev. Gabriela Garcia and Bill Callahan from Christ UMC, the directors, staff, parents, children, and the bus driver came all the way from Methuen on a Sunday morning to thank Calvary Church for the gift of a brand new bus for the Children’s Center.

Thanks to the extraordinary bequests of people like George Lucas and Jean Chandler – Calvary Church has been entrusted with a significant endowment earmarked for mission to those in need, including the working poor.

A year ago an appeal went out from The Children’s Center of Methuen, an outreach project of Christ United Methodist Church in Lowell, for contributions to replace their two aging buses.

The Calvary Saints Fund Committee recommended that funds be given for the purchase of either one new bus or two used ones. The directors of the Center and the pastor of Christ UMC made a presentation to the Church Council; and after discernment, dialogue and prayer over several weeks the Council reached consensus and approved the gift of $70,000 to the Center.

After blessing the new bus, everyone joined us for worship. The children sang two songs for the congregation.
