Calvary Youth Group in the 2010 Walk For Hunger

Friday, April 16th, 2010

at the 2009 Walk for Hunger

On Sunday, May 2nd, the Youth Group will be participating in Project Bread’s 2010 Walk for Hunger. The need is urgent and we hope that you will support us!

This is our second Walk for Hunger! We plan to have more participation and walk more miles this year. We also hope to raise more donations for this important cause. Please consider donating to our team, or to one of us individually, to help us reach our goal, and to help our hungry neighbors.

Here is a direct link to the Calvary Arlington Youth Group Team page. Youth group members will also be collecting donations before the walk.

Together, we can truly make a difference in the lives of hungry people.

Children Host Tag Sale and Eco-Fair

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

The children of Calvary Church have been studying global climate change as part of their Sunday School Mission Project. For 9 weeks, the Sunday school classes have focused on transportation, food distribution, energy use, and consumerism. Students have learned to “Reduce, Re-Use, and Recycle” with vigor.

On Saturday, March 6th, the children hosted a huge indoor yard sale and environmental fair. There were dozens of tables full of donated clothes, toys, books, and household good for sale. NSTAR donated energy saving light bulbs and Whole Foods contributed reusable bags which were given away. The children organized a soup lunch, face painting and beanbag toss. The hall was decorated with information posters made by the children.

The children earned over $2300 from the event. The children are evaluating choices for using or donating the money. Some possibilities include paying the surcharge to have the church’s electricity come from renewable wind sources and donating to local and state-wide climate change advocacy groups. When asked about their efforts Isaac Wilde, age 9, responded “It’s for a good cause, so it doesn’t feel like work.”

Driving Reign Concert was Excellent!

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

The youth group sponsored a concert by local Christian rock/blues band “Driving Reign”. The concert was a wonderful event, with excellent music by very talented musicians, good fellowship, and terrific snacks!

The youth group raised $650 to help fund their 2010 Youth Group Mission trip this summer to travel to the Appalachian region to work with Appalachia Service Project. Congratulations!
