Fellowship Time Group Sundays
This group, led by intern Lisa McColgan, meets after worship in Room 2 on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of the month. We will gather to break bread together and share God’s presence in our lives and discuss the service.
Light & Healing Group Tuesdays
This small group meets on Tuesdays (except the 4th Tuesday of the month) at 7 PM for about an hour, through December 3rd. Each week, we will go through a meditation from Flora Wuellner’s book Heart of Healing, Heart of Light to make space for experiencing God’s healing touch. It isn’t necessary to attend every week, because each meeting is a separate meditation.
The Wesleys and the UMC Oct-Nov
Starting on October 13th, our Sunday School classes and our 10:30 AM service will showcase themes from Wesleyan theology and the United Methodist Church. Wesley talked a lot about grace. The UMC reminds us that all are called to serve. We have a few guest speakers lined up during October and November including Jamie Webster, our resident Wesley scholar, and Rev. We Chang, our District Superintendent. Join us each Sunday to learn more about this historic family and Methodism.
Theology on Tap 10/15
Last month, we gathered at Common Ground to talk about our Calling. In keeping with this theme, this month we’ll talk about Mission Work. What form does it take? Does it always have to involve traveling? Can it be done with a pen and checkbook as well as a hammer and some nails? Or is there something about coming face to face with those we help that makes our Mission Work truly divinely inspired? Join us on Tuesday, October 15th at 7PM at Common Ground, 319 Broadway, as we make it our mission to discuss and understand this important topic. RSVP to Ryan at dce at calvaryarlington dot org so he can reserve a table.
Chili Cook-Off 10/20
The Youth Group starts their fundraising for the 2020 mission trip with a chili cook-off in the Fellowship Hall after worship on October 20th. A suggested donation will get you a ticket you can use to vote for your favorite dish. We will also serve cornbread, drinks, and dessert.
Book Club 10/22
The Book Club will meet on Tuesday, October 22nd at 7 PM in the Parlor to discuss the book Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. All are welcome!
Habitat Work Day 10/26
Calvary’s next Habitat Work Day is Saturday, October 26th. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building simple low-cost homes by forming partnerships with low-income families in need of affordable housing.
The Missions Team is looking for volunteers to work on a site from 8AM-4PM. Work may include painting, carpentry, framing walls, etc. No previous construction experience required! A sign-up sheet will be posted in front of the church office. For more information, please contact Mark Thompson or Steve Schmidt.
Red Cross Blood Drive 10/26
Calvary will host a blood drive from 9-2 in the Fellowship Hall. For an appointment, please call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org.
Taizé Service 11/13
A wonderful opportunity for meditative worship, Taizé includes silence, prayer, and song. Taizé is offered in the sanctuary at 7 PM on the second Wednesday of each month from September to June. For more information about Taizé, visit taize.fr/en.
